Refuge Bible Church

REFUGE
BIBLE CHURCH

Refuge Bible Church exists to help weary people find refuge in Christ through the truth of God's Word, meaningful worship, real Christian community, and intentional discipleship. In a culture filled with biblical confusion, distraction and spiritual hype, we want to be a church grounded in Scripture and centered on the lordship of Jesus.

The world doesn't need another show, another program, or another religious institution. But we believe it desperately needs more communities that take Scripture seriously — where discipleship is the goal, not attendance. Refuge Bible Church is being planted out of a burden for grounded Christianity — the kind that forms people, not just fills seats. Whether you've followed Christ for years or are simply searching for answers, we'd love to meet you.

MEET THE
PASTOR

Pastor Zak Tindal

Pastor Zak Tindal

Zak Tindal is the lead pastor of Refuge Bible Church, a new church launching in north Houston in 2027. His main mission is to provide a welcoming, encouraging home for everyday believers and anyone searching for a fresh start in their faith—a church where the lordship of Jesus is of primary importance. Zak’s Sunday services focus on Bible-based passionate worship, deep verse-by-verse Bible teaching, and reverent weekly communion. Instead of giving short motivational speeches, he focuses on teaching the Bible simply, honestly, and exactly as it is written so that deep biblical truths stay highly practical for your everyday life. Zak has been happily married to his wife, Kattie, since 2012. Together, they are raising two energetic toddlers. As a family, they cannot wait to plant deep roots in the Houston area and build a real, loving community. Above all, Zak is passionate about sharing the gospel with everyone, and equipping fellow believers to do the same. Just like the apostles did, he loves using the undeniable evidence of fulfilled prophecy to show that Christianity is objectively true.

What Drives Us

Careful Verse-by-Verse Bible Teaching

We believe the Bible is not a collection of inspirational quotes to be cherry-picked, but the unified, living Word of God. So we teach it the way it was written—book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. We work through entire books of Scripture so that nothing is skipped and every passage is heard in its proper context.

We refuse to treat the Bible as a springboard for our own ideas. Instead, we labor to let the text speak for itself. We study the original languages, the historical setting, and the literary structure so that what we teach is what the author intended and what God meant. The goal is not academic lectures, but Spirit-empowered exposition that makes deep biblical truths clear, clear-headed, and intensely practical for your everyday life. We believe the faithful preaching of God’s Word is what builds His church.

His Word. Our foundation.

Weekly Communion: Reverent, Repentant, Restorative

We believe the Lord’s Supper should be more than a monthly tradition or a brief moment added to the end of a service. We believe Communion belongs at the heart of the gathered church.

Every week, we come to the Table.

We come reverently, remembering that we are approaching the One who gave Himself for us. We do not come casually, because the cross was not casual. We remember the body of Christ given for us and His blood poured out for the forgiveness of sins. Communion calls us to slow down, to remember, and to behold the holiness and mercy of our Lord.

We come repentantly, examining ourselves before God. The Table gives us a regular opportunity to confess our sins, acknowledge where we have wandered, turn again toward Christ, and allow the light of His Word to expose what needs to be surrendered. We do not hide our sin from God or pretend that we have already arrived. We come honestly, because the gospel gives us the freedom to repent without despair.

And we come restoratively. Communion does not merely remind us that we have sinned; it reminds us what Christ has done about our sin. We come to the Table not trusting in our own righteousness, but in His. We remember that our standing before God rests upon Jesus—His death, His resurrection, His grace, and His finished work. The Table calls the weary back to Christ, the wandering back to the Shepherd, and the repentant back into the joy of fellowship with God.

Our refuge is Jesus.

So each week, we come to His Table.

Modern Theologically Sound Worship

We believe worship is not a warm-up for the sermon or a concert to be consumed. Worship is the rightful response of the creature to the Creator. So we sing songs that are musically engaging and theologically rich—songs that tell the truth about who God is, what He has done, and what He has promised.

Our aim is to mean what we say, to draw near to Him in repentance, truth and boldness knowing He has made us clean, and to praise Him joyfully for his grace and mercy.

Our singing is passionate because our God is worthy of passion. But it is also rooted in truth, because worship that is not grounded in the truth of Scripture is not worship. We choose songs that give the church language to express joy, lament, gratitude, confession, repentance and hope, all anchored in the unchanging character of God.

Why We Emphasize Evangelism & Apologetics

We believe God has spoken, Christ has died for sinners, and the gospel is a genuine invitation to every person. So we refuse to treat evangelism as a mere announcement. Throughout the book of Acts, the Apostle Paul reasoned, explained, defended, and persuaded—and we do the same. We answer objections, open the Scriptures, and plead with people to be reconciled to God.

We want Christians to know not only what they believe, but why they believe it. Truth invites examination, and the God who created the mind is not threatened by questions. Our goal is not to win debates but to remove unnecessary obstacles so that people may see Christ clearly—trusting God to use the proclamation of His Word to bring people to Himself.
